Frequently asked questions
-
What is vig?
Vig (or juice or overround) is the bookmaker margin baked into a market. A two-way market where implied probabilities sum to more than 100% carries vig equal to the overround. See the glossary entry for the math.
-
Why strip vig?
The no-vig price approximates the book's estimate of "true" probability. Compare your model's probability against the no-vig price, not the offered price, to know whether you have edge.
-
Is the no-vig price actually fair?
It's the book's implied fair price after stripping margin — not necessarily true probability, but the closest public proxy. Sharp books (Pinnacle, Cloudbet) tend to be closer to true probability than recreational books.
